Animation and Video Production Underway for Preschool SEL Materials
From Joint Design to Implementation
The foundation for this phase was established through collaboratively developed storyboards and learning materials created by Otvoreno učilište Littera, Pomoć deci, and Dječji vrtić Čigra (Čigra Kindergarten). These outputs were developed in alignment with content development guidelines and research-based frameworks provided by the National College of Ireland and the European Parents’ Association, ensuring consistency with established best practices in early childhood and preschool education and social-emotional learning.
These materials now serve as the basis for the development of the final learning assets.
Animated Video Production in Progress
The project is currently focused on the production of a series of short animated videos, with each topic being translated into structured visual narratives suitable for preschool audiences.
Production is being led by Profil Klett, which is responsible for translating jointly developed concepts into animation, scene development and visual storytelling, bringing storyboards and characters to life.
By focusing on reflection rather than correction, the series creates emotionally safe learning experiences where children are encouraged to think about feelings rather than fear them.
Character Design and Visual Development
A central component of this phase is the implementation of the project’s character set into animation. The characters have been refined to ensure visual consistency and clear personality expression, supporting children’s engagement with narrative and emotional content.
Design considerations focus on creating visually warm, accessible, and distinct characters, with careful attention to colour, form, and expression.
Localization and Cultural Relevance
Localization is integrated throughout the linguistic production processes. Character names are being adapted across partner countries to ensure cultural and linguistic suitability. This process is coordinated with all project partners to ensure consistency and usability in different national contexts.
Development of Supporting Materials
In parallel with animation production, supporting worksheets, classroom activities and outdoor guides are also being developed. These materials are directly aligned with the video content and are intended to reinforce learning outcomes through structured, hands-on and nature-based activities in preschool settings.
The final result will be an integrated set of materials supporting social and emotional learning in early childhood and preschool education.
